36th New Music Guild, Inc. Festival, May 13-15, 2022, with Guest Artists, Violinist/Violist, Wanda Sobieska and Pianist, Patrick Wickliffe

On Friday, May 24th, 2022 Sobieska and Wickliffe will kick off the 36th Festival by playing three School Children’s Concerts. At 8:00 am they will play at Canfield Middle School; at 10:00 a.m. they will perform at St. Joseph the Provider School in Brier Hill, Youngstown; and at 1:00 p.m. they will visit St. Charles School in Boardman, Ohio.

Residing in Kent, Ohio and a frequent guest artist on the Guild concert series, Sobieska is a highly gifted performer and arranger with a special flair for choosing inventive and imaginative programs. Splitting his time between metropolitan Cleveland and Cincinnati, Wickliffe is a talented pianist, just completing a PHD in Music Composition at the College Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati.

New Music Guild Coordinators Gwyneth, violin and Robert Rollin, piano will perform the special music for the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Holy Apostles Parish. They will highlight the Mass with works by Gabrielle Faure, Christophe Willibald Gluck, and Robert Rollin

Sobieska and Wickliffe will highlight the Festival Gala at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Holy Apostles Parish, at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 15th, 2022. They will present works by Korngold, Mendelssohn, Sobieska, and Robert Rollin. The Festival Chamber Orchestra conducted by Rollin will perform premieres of Wanda Sobieska’s transcription of several movements from Handel’s Water Music, and Rollin’s Adam’s and Aidan’s Reverie with Sobieska as viola soloist. Admission is free.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Sobieska belongs to the 5th generation of a family of musicians and musicologists. She has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in the US, Poland, and Canada. She regularly plays with many professional orchestras.

She holds a B.M. in violin performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Based in northeast Ohio, Sobieska is active as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. Recent engagements include the Ashland Symphony, Tuscarawas Philharmonic, Porthouse Theater at Blossom, Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Massillon, and Bluewater Kings Band. She is also a prolific arranger: her website, freegigmusic.com, has served musicians since 2009 and receives 1000 visitors a day from all over the world. Her work has been featured by the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra, and Metropolitan Opera.

Patrick Wickliffe holds a B.A. from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a Masters from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to many years as a collaborative pianist, he has served as Coordinator of Music Ministry at St. Joan of Arc Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

There will be a catered reception after the Sunday afternoon concert in honor of Wanda Sobieska and Patrick Wickliffe.
