New Music Society Presents Seven World Premieres

Dana School of Music and the New Music Society will present seven world premieres Wednesday, April 11, 8:00 p.m. in Bliss Recital Hall. The compositions will be performed by the Composers Ensemble and directed by Dana faculty Gwyneth Rollin along with student performers.

Graduate student Tim Webb will premiere two works: his challenging Throwaway Variations for piano solo, and freshman Michael Walenciej’s Moonlight Sketches for piano solo. Michael comes to us from Steubenville.

Four of the world premieres involve flute. Graduate flutist Pamela Murchison will premiere Dana Faculty David Stiver’s Miserere nobis with Ryan Stewart at the piano. This composition was originally written for flute and harp. Michael Walenciej’s Flute Duet No. 1 will be presented for the first time in its entirety by seniors Danielle Frabutt and Adrienne Lehotsky. A second flute duet, Snow Dreams by Mary Costello will be premiered by Danielle Frabutt and Vivienne Asturizaga. Freshman Daniel Brandt will hear the premiere of his duet Three Sheets to the Woodwinds, a three movement work, performed by Shana Kelly, flute, and Dave Amos, clarinet.

Prelude for String Quartet by sophomore Clinton Davies will be performed by a student quartet. Senior flutist Danielle Frabutt will play a virtuoso piece, The Fish are Jumping, by New York flutist and composer Robert Dick.

The concert is free and open to the public.
